Longer than the Rockies, the Himalayas and the Andes combined, this underwater mountain range is the longest on Earth. We just got back from Viking’s Panama and Central American cruise and saw sloths, caiman, lizards, beautiful birds and so much lush vegetation, especially in Costa Rica. Your comment about “Just being on Viking Sea a thousand miles from the ocean was somewhat mind blowing” is something I hadn’t considered. As always, I recommend you pack light to reduce the carbon footprint of your trip and for your convenience.

Night Amazon & Caribbean Adventure sailing on the Viking Sea
We also did a river cruise with Vantage in 2016 and that was phenomenal. I don't expect this cruise to be anything like the river cruise, but still look forward to visiting areas that I have not been to before, and I also enjoy being on the Viking ocean ships. We were very lucky to have a beautiful day with calm seas for our visit to French Guiana. Many ships on this itinerary have had to skip this stop because of rough seas. I’m glad we got there as our time on this island was one of the highlights of our trip. This is a fabulous itinerary combining several lovely spots in the Caribbean with a week in South America.

She used a laser pointer to show where the birds were located (careful not to point the laser near the birds themselves). However, we were birding in a rainforest which by its very nature is thick with foliage.

I wish the Star Theater folks hadn’t limited his lectures to 45 minutes as I could have listened all day. I appreciated how Dr. Price managed to educate us on the perils facing the ecosystem without bringing politics into the discussion. Make sure to attend his forums and casual chats in the Explorers’ Lounge as well. As if that wasn’t enough, the Cruise Director, Ryan Bishop, put on a fantastic show of his own. He has a wonderful singing voice but really drew in the audience with his storytelling and sense of humor.

Dave helped when he could be we wished they’d left half their stuff at home. Thankfully none of the passengers we saw were injured by their efforts, but it was painful to watch.
